Most Snapchat advice written for the Gulf is really about Saudi Arabia, where Snapchat is a daily habit for a very large share of the population. The UAE is a different market. The audience is more mixed, English carries more of the load, and Snapchat usually sits next to Meta and TikTok rather than ahead of them. That does not make it a weak channel here. It makes it a channel you have to place correctly.
This guide covers when Snapchat ads make sense for a UAE business, which formats to use, how to set up tracking so the numbers mean something, and the mistakes we see most often in UAE accounts. If you advertise in Saudi Arabia as well, read our separate Snapchat ads playbook for Saudi Arabia, because the strategy there is not the same.
Is Snapchat worth it in the UAE?
Snapchat is worth testing in the UAE when three things are true. Your buyer is young, broadly under 35. Your product sells on looks, taste or impulse more than on long research. And you can produce vertical video that feels native to the app, not a resized TV ad.
Categories that tend to fit: food and delivery brands, beauty and cosmetics, fashion and accessories, consumer electronics, events and entertainment, e-commerce stores with a strong visual product, and apps. Categories that usually struggle: complex B2B services, high-ticket professional services with a long sales cycle, and anything where the buyer needs to read a lot before they act. For those, LinkedIn or Google Search is usually a better first test.
Search demand for Snapchat advertising itself is small in the UAE. Keyword Planner shows about 10 searches a month for "snapchat ads uae" and similar terms. In Saudi Arabia the Arabic term اعلانات سناب شات gets around 1,600 searches a month. That gap tells you something about where advertisers put their Snapchat budgets.
Snapchat ad formats that matter for UAE brands
You do not need every format. Most UAE accounts can be built on three.
Single image or video ads. Full screen, vertical, shown between Stories and in Spotlight. This is the workhorse format. Short video with a clear hook in the first second does most of the work.
Collection ads. A main video or image with product tiles underneath. Good for e-commerce stores that want to show several products from one ad. They need a working product catalogue connected to Snapchat.
Dynamic product ads. Ads built automatically from your catalogue and shown to people based on what they browsed. This is Snapchat's retargeting engine for stores, and it depends on the Snap Pixel sending clean product events.
Lenses and filters exist and can be memorable, but they are brand awareness tools with a separate production cost. Treat them as a later step, once the performance formats are working.
Targeting in the UAE
Snapchat targeting is simpler than Meta's. You can target by location down to emirate level, by age and gender, by language, by interest categories Snapchat calls lifestyle segments, and by your own audiences: website visitors, customer lists and lookalikes built from them.
Three practical rules for the UAE:
-
Split English and Arabic. Run separate ad sets or campaigns by language, with creative written for each. In our own account data, Arabic leads have cost 32 to 36 percent less than English leads at a similar cost per click. That was across search and social accounts, not Snapchat alone, but the principle carries: if your customers speak Arabic, give them Arabic ads. Our Arabic vs English ads guide explains how we test it.
-
Target by emirate when your service is local. A Dubai clinic paying for impressions in Ras Al Khaimah is wasting money. National e-commerce can run UAE wide.
-
Start broad on interests. Stacking many narrow lifestyle segments usually shrinks the audience without improving results. Let the creative and the conversion signal do the filtering.
Tracking: the part most UAE accounts skip
Snapchat can only optimise toward what it can see. If the Snap Pixel is not installed, or only fires on page view, the platform will optimise toward clicks and swipe ups, and you will get cheap traffic that does not buy.
Before spending, make sure of the following:
- The Snap Pixel is on every page and sends the events that matter: view content, add to cart, start checkout, purchase, or a lead event on your thank you page.
- The Conversions API is connected, so events still arrive when browsers block the pixel. On Shopify, Salla and Zid this is usually a native integration.
- Purchase events carry a value and currency, so you can see return on ad spend, not only conversion counts.
- Your campaign objective matches the event. A store should optimise toward purchases once it has enough of them, not toward swipes.
Expect Snapchat's reported numbers and your analytics tool to disagree. Snapchat counts view through conversions by default, and analytics tools mostly count clicks. Pick one source of truth for decisions, usually your store or CRM, and use platform numbers for comparing ads against each other.
Creative that works on Snapchat
Snapchat rewards creative that looks like it belongs in the app. In practice:
- Vertical 9:16 video, filmed on a phone or made to feel that way.
- A hook in the first second: the product in use, a face talking to camera, or a clear result.
- Captions on screen, because many people watch without sound.
- One message per ad. A single offer, a single product, a single action.
- Several versions at once. Plan to test three to five creatives per ad set and replace the losers every few weeks.
For UAE audiences, show local context where it helps: prices in AED, delivery times inside the UAE, payment options people recognise. An ad that feels made for someone else's market gets swiped away.
Snapchat vs TikTok vs Meta in the UAE
These three channels overlap, so the question is usually which one to add next, not which one to use alone.
Meta (Instagram and Facebook) is the default for most UAE brands. It has the widest reach across ages, the most mature targeting and the strongest e-commerce tools. For most businesses it should be working before you add Snapchat. Our Meta ads management in Dubai page explains how we run it.
TikTok reaches a similar young audience with a stronger discovery engine and a more entertainment led feed. It suits brands that can produce a lot of creator style video. See our TikTok ads guide for Dubai or our TikTok ads agency in Dubai.
Snapchat is often the cheaper way to reach a young audience with a direct response message, and it has a large Arabic speaking user base across the Gulf. It works well as a second or third social channel, especially for brands selling into both the UAE and Saudi Arabia.
What budget to start with
We do not publish Snapchat cost per thousand impressions or cost per click benchmarks for the UAE, because they move with season, audience and creative, and a number from one account can mislead another. Check prices in your own account after the first two weeks.
A sensible way to plan is to decide how many conversions you need for the campaign to learn, estimate a realistic cost per conversion from your other channels, and multiply. If that budget is more than you can afford, start with a single campaign and a single conversion goal rather than spreading a small budget across several.
Common mistakes in UAE Snapchat accounts
- Optimising for swipe ups when the goal is sales or leads.
- Running one ad set that mixes English and Arabic speakers with English only creative.
- Reusing Instagram feed ads in square format with small text.
- No Conversions API, so a large part of the conversions never reach Snapchat.
- Judging the channel after a week, before it has collected enough conversions to learn.
- Sending traffic to a slow page that was never tested on a phone. See our guide to landing page design in Dubai.
FAQ
Are Snapchat ads effective in the UAE?
They can be, for brands selling to people under 35 with a visual or impulse led product. Snapchat usually works best in the UAE as a second or third social channel alongside Meta, rather than the first.
How much do Snapchat ads cost in the UAE?
Costs depend on audience, season and creative, so we do not quote a fixed CPM. Run a two week test with a clear conversion goal and read the cost per result in your own account before scaling.
Should I run Snapchat ads in Arabic or English in the UAE?
Both, in separate ad sets, if your customers speak both. In our data Arabic leads have cost 32 to 36 percent less than English leads at a similar cost per click.
Do I need the Snap Pixel?
Yes. Without the pixel and ideally the Conversions API, Snapchat cannot optimise toward purchases or leads and will default to cheap clicks.
Is Snapchat better than TikTok in the UAE?
Neither is better in general. TikTok is stronger for discovery and creator content, and Snapchat is often a cheaper way to reach a young audience with a direct offer. Many brands test both after Meta is working.
Where to start
If you already run Meta ads that make money and your buyer is young, a Snapchat test is a reasonable next step. Set up the pixel and Conversions API first, pick one conversion goal, and give it enough budget and time to learn.
